Scenic routes and secluded spots for a romantic escape.
Morocco is incredibly romantic when you get away from the crowds, and having a car unlocks the most beautiful, intimate experiences. My favorite romantic drive is through the Ouirgane Valley, about an hour from Marrakech heading toward Taroudant. The road winds through the foothills of the High Atlas with absolutely stunning views, olive groves, and traditional Berber villages. Book a night at one of the boutique hotels or eco-lodges there - many have incredible mountain views and heated pools. It's peaceful, scenic, and perfect for couples. For sunset, drive to Agafay Desert (45 minutes from Marrakech) and book a luxury desert camp for dinner. Watching the sun set over the rocky desert hills while sipping mint tea is magical. Some camps have private tents for couples. The coastal drive from Sidi Kaouki to Essaouira at golden hour is beautiful - stop at clifftop viewpoints and walk the empty beaches. In spring, drive through the Dadès Valley when everything's green and wildflowers bloom - it's like something from a fairy tale. The road itself is dramatic with rock formations and winding passes. For winter romance, head to the Atlas Mountains - some kasbahs have fireplaces and mountain views perfect for cozy nights. The drive to Imlil village is short but scenic, and you can walk through the valley hand-in-hand. Chefchaouen (the blue city) is about 5 hours from Marrakech but worth a weekend trip - the blue-washed buildings are photogenic, the pace is slow, and wandering the medina together is lovely. For pure luxury, drive to Essaouira or Agadir and book an oceanfront riad or resort. Having your own car means you can discover hidden spots - ask locals about secret beaches or viewpoints. Bring a picnic, stop at random scenic places, and enjoy the freedom of exploring together without tour group schedules. Morocco's landscapes - mountains, desert, coast - create naturally romantic settings. You just need to get out and find them.
